I came from a Business Accounting background and worked in a small firm for about 3 years. I found a lot of my work was repetitive and sometimes felt familiarity and repetitiveness made it challenging for me to stay engaged. I knew I wanted to switch my career but I didn’t know how. One day, a friend introduced me to WeCareer. In no time I was speaking with Eric, and he gave me tonnes of great advice. He has many years of experience in the data industry, and after our discussion I felt more encouraged to stick to my goal of becoming a data analyst.

I attended WeCareer’s 2-3 month data project training, and I learned SQL, Python, and Tableau. I didn’t only learn how to use them, but how to to apply them in real-life projects. Next, I signed up for their mentorship program. Eric assigned me a mentor based on my career needs. Victor was my mentor and he was very nice. He went through my resume, and explained a campaign project in real life by using SAS. This made it easy for me to understand the whole campaign process and I learned how to complete it using SAS. He helped me modify my resume, and I applied to around 300-500 jobs weekly. Once I got an interview, I informed Victor and he always did one-on-one mock interviews with me to prepare. When I would attend the real interview, I would always record what the interviewer asked, and made it into a story so I could review it alone and with Victor or other mentors.

I failed a lot of interviews. Sometimes I was close to the last round, and other times I made the last round, but I didn’t get through. After many rounds of interviews, I summarized the interview experience and improved my interview skills with all the help WeCareer mentors gave to me. They helped me understand what the interviewer wants to hear during the interview. Finally, I landed the role of Senior Data Analyst in Big Three Telecom. I was taken back by this awesome opportunity. I truly appreciate all the help WeCareer provided, thanks all!
